IGP- Tun Mahathir's action a national threat

KANGAR: Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar described the actions by former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has escalated to become a national threat.

He said, the threat was prevalent as Dr Mahathir was seen to have been constantly criticising the country’s parliamentary democracy in his speeches.

He said, Dr Mahathir has portrayed a negative image as if parliamentary democracy was a thing of the past in the country, despite the fact that the 14th General Election will be held in less than two years from now.

“Tun Mahathir is a respectable countryman, so we expect him to respect the Federal Constitution and refrain from inflicting questions that are deemed as threats to the parliamentary democracy in our country,” said Khalid.

“I have informed the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). It is our responsibility to open the investigation papers.

“We have opened four investigation papers and a negotiation with the Attorney-General Chambers will be held. After the negotiation, it is not our responsibility anymore,” said Khalid to reporters at an event, here, today.

Dr Mahathir had been vocal in his criticisms on prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak over issues involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion donation.
