PM: We shared nation’s wealth

TAPAH: The various governmental unit trust funds have allowed the people to share the country’s wealth.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) trust funds like Amanah Saham Bumiputera, Amanah Saham Nasional and Amanah Saham Gemilang had benefitted the people.

“These funds allow the people to share the country’s wealth. It is also done with minimum risks.

“The Government has made it so to protect the investors,” he said during the launching of the Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia programme at the Mini Stadium here yesterday.

Najib said 36 billion units of trust funds under PNB were sold in 2000, when the programme first started.

“As of March 31, the number has increased to over 200 billion units.

“For the same period, the number of investors has risen from 7.7 million to 12.65 million,” he said.

Noting that the household debt increased from 87% in 2014 to 89% last year, Najib advised the people to manage their finances wisely.

“Some household debt, like credit card debt, and housing and car loans, cannot be avoided.

“But if we manage our expenditure and finances wisely, we can manage our cost of living, debt level and lifestyle,” he said, adding that it was important to have knowledge on financial management and investment.

“On our part, we always do our best for the people. The Government is saving billions of ringgit through the removal of subsidies, like (for) petrol and diesel.”

Najib also presented a mock cheque of RM700,000 on behalf of PNB, to Perak Health director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie to upgrade the haemodialysis centre at Hospital Tapah.

He said it was also to buy four haemodialysis machines for the hospital, as part of PNB’s corporate social responsibility.

He added that PNB would follow up with more allocations to district hospitals in other states to upgrade their haemodialysis centres.

Present during the programme were Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Perak Speaker Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany and PNB chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid.
