KUALA LUMPUR: The light rail transit (LRT) and monorail users will enjoy 50 per cent discount if they use the services between 6am and 7am beginning Sept 16.
Prasarana Group chief executive officer Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said the discount for cashless payments was introduced to reduce congestion at LRT and monorail stations during peak hours.
"Touch 'n Go, MyRapid, MyRapid Smart 7, MyRapid Smart 30 users and concession card holders (students, senior citizens and the disabled) will enjoy this discount rate off the current fares.
"The discount is also aimed at encouraging commuters to change their travel patterns from morning rush hour, between 7am and 9am, to as early as 6am and 7am to avoid congestion at some stations," he told a press conference here Friday.
He said the discount was expected to benefit about 10,000 commuters.
"This discount includes the Kelana Jaya, Sri Petaling and Ampang LRT lines, Kuala Lumpur Monorail and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Sunway route," he said.
Azmi said 66 per cent of the LRT and monorail users were using the cashless payment method.
